No matter how safe one is in a microlight, there is no doubt that there is a definite adrenalin rush when soaring over land and sea in one of these little aircrafts. Louis Geldenhuys conducts microlight tours (starting and ending at the Fisantekraal Airfield just outside Durbanville) over the gorgeous Western Cape terrain, taking advantage of the West Coast, its shores and the stunning farmlands of the region. His adventurous, fun approach means that passengers can look forward to low-level dips, then soaring high up to see the vast expanses of Cape Town’s surrounds. When going over the ocean, look out for schools of dolphins and even whales, as your pilot takes you as close to the water as possible, sometimes even skimming the waves. Table Mountain is best viewed from the microlight, where there is nothing to hinder its beauty and scale.

Those who want to take the next step and jump into the pilot’s seat are able to learn to fly here. Private instruction courses are made up of practical and theoretical modules. After successfully passing these, you will be awarded your Microlight Pilot License.

Sunrise remains the best flying time as the weather is usually at its calmest, and the fresh air and breaking light makes for idyllic circumstances. Remember to bring along your camera, as well as warm clothing, closed shoes and something to tie long hair back.
