Town centre 1980
Namso Drapers(Town Centre, Mitchells Plain) was started in 1980, Polka Place to be exact. It was a family business that was started years before this with branches in Distric Six, Woodstock, Athlone, Gatesville, Westridge and Rocklands. We sold everything from baby clothes to curtains to pantyhose. Namso drapers was famous for their pantyhose!

Namso sports 1991
In 1991 Namso Sports was born as we saw the need for a ‘takkie’ store. Namso Drapers slowly transformed into Namso Sports until there was no more drapery left just sports. At that time there was no big chain stores or small enterprises selling takkies.

Some of the more popular brands at that time was North Stars, All Stars, LA gear, Power, Hi-tec, Troop. From there we grew from strength to strength and as our customer base expanded so did our sports line and our competitors. Well known clothing department stores also started stocking takkies and we had to find ways to differentiate ourselves from our competitors.

Soccer is a big sport in the Mitchell’s Plain community. We thus decided that this was the way to go, the owners being soccer players themselves. We also started a local soccer team named Namso Spurs. Namso grew to be a ‘household name’(if you can call it that) in Mitchell’s plain.

Station Plaza 1993
Before long we had our 2nd store in Station Plaza which proved to be quite successful. Years down the line we closed our Station plaza branch which gave way to new and exciting opportunities.

Promenade Mall 2003
As they say when one door closes, another opens. This was when we saw the opening of much anticipated Promenade Mall in Oct 2003. Promenade mall now being the second largest mall in the Western Cape!

This was when we decided we needed to update our ‘look’ and that included a new name “OZONE SPORTS”. We broadened our range to pool cues and accessories, darts, skateboards and accessories, rollerblades and also printing on jerseys.
