This service entails:
• OPG Lighting conducts an audit at your premises to identify and calculate the inefficient lighting technologies.
• The findings are then sent to the lighting engineers for further analysis
• The analysis will provide feedback relating to the lumens so that your premises are compliant with the national health and safety standards.
• A meeting will then be set up with the client to present the findings and to propose the solution which includes a substantial rebate from Eskom.
• We submit all documentation to Eskom and proceed with the supply and installation of the new lamps and fittings.
• OPG will carry the risk of the Eskom Rebate up until the rebate has been paid to the client, at which time the client pays the rebate to OPG.

Mercury is a neurotoxin, meaning it has detrimental effects on the nervous system. It can damage the brain and lead to physical and emotional disorders. So whether its presence is natural or anthropogenic, it's a potential problem for humans.
Approximately 125 Kilograms of mercury was released in South Africa in the year 2012 due to the breakage of electric lamps and tubes during storage and transportation. It is estimated that nearly 60 million waste fluorescent lamps and tubes are sold annually in South Africa. These lamps and tubes contain more than a half ton of mercury. The mercury in urban storm water sediment results in part from improperly discarded fluorescent lamps and tubes.
Note: In South Africa operating a fluorescent lamp/tube crusher is considered hazardous waste generator/ treatment. Operating a fluorescent lamp crusher requires a "standardized permit" from the Department of Toxic Substances Control & Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Disposing fluorescent lamps/tubes safely:
• Package fluorescent lamps and tubes carefully when storing and transporting them.
• Do not tape tubes together.
• Store and transport fluorescent lamps and tubes in the original box or another protective container.
• Store them in an area away from rain so that if they break, the mercury from broken lamps or tubes will not be washed by rain water into waterways.
